22 Bookish Questions – My Book/Reading Habits

22 Bookish Questions – My Book/Reading Habits

A friend of mine shared this post and I thought it would be fun to share my reading habits as well!

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?

I prefer hardbacks. I love the way they look on my shelf and I like reading from them more than paperbacks. That being said, I’m not opposed to paperbacks.

Amazon or brick and mortar?

I tend to buy most of my books from Amazon, Book Depository, or BookOutlet, mainly because we only have one car at the moment and my husband takes it to work so I don’t go shopping much.

Locally owned bookstore or big-name chain store?

Both. I love Indie bookstores but I also really love Barnes and Noble.

Bookmark or dog-ear?

I tend to use bookmarks (or random pieces of paper or whatever happens to be lying around). The only time I dog ear is when there is a quote that I love in a book, I dog-ear the page to save it for later. I’m not a huge fan of sticky notes/tabs in my books so this works for me.

Alphabetize by author or title or random?

Random maybe? I organize my shelf by book height and sort of just randomly after that. But, my shelves look clean and I love them.

Keep, throw away, or sell?

I keep books that I love and that I know I’ll read again. I’ve been going through my shelves a lot the past few months and taking off books that I know I won’t read again. I want to have a personal library full of books that I love. I don’t throw books away, so when I get rid of them I usually give them away or sell them.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?

I keep the dust jacket. Always.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?

Remove it! I never read books with the dust jacket on (unless it’s a library book) because I like to keep the dust jackets looking nice.

Short story or novel?

Novel!

Collection (short stories by the same author) or anthology (short stories by different authors)?

Ummm to be honest, I’m not really a fan of either because I don’t really like short stories much.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?

Lately, it’s been “sneak a page or two in while my baby is sleeping or not being fussy” so right now I just stop when I have to and read when I can!

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?

Ummm I’m not sure, honestly, I’ve never really thought about it.

Buy or borrow?

I love buying books! But I’ve been trying to borrow them more to save money.

New or used?

I don’t mind used books, but I like having new books!

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendation or browse?

Browsing and recommendations from Book Bloggers and Bookstagram

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?

Depends on the book!

Morning, afternoon or nighttime reading?

Reading anytime!!

Single volume or series?

Again that depends. I love stand-alones but I also like series (just not too long)

Favorite series?

I love Harry Potter. And more recently I’ve fallen in love with the Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?

One of my favorites in high school was Invaluable by Holly Wood, and I still really love it!

Favorite books read last year?

Oh boy.. dang… that’s so hard… Let me think… I really loved Eliza and Her Monsters which I reread last month! As well as The Hate U Give and Autoboyography!

Favorite books of all time?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, The Serpent King, The Happiness Project, Eliza and Her Monsters and P.S. I like You.

I’d love to hear your answers to these questions! Write a blog post and leave a link for me in the comments, or just answer in the comments! I’d love to hear about your book habits!

Also, my sister is a fourth-grade teacher and is working to raise funds to help her 54 students next year have a space to read as well as adding books to her classroom library. If you are able to donate, please check out her donation site and help her students fall in love with reading!!
